Skull and Bones has many high-value targets that you can eliminate. Still, there's one that's particularly strange and eerie. Here's our guide on how to defeat the Maangodin Ghost Ship in Skull and Bones.

How to defeat the Maangodin Ghost Ship in Skull and Bones

You can beat the Maangodin Ghost Ship by destroying its weak points to make it vulnerable. Here's a quick summary:

  • This spectral vessel is level 8, and is part of a quest called Oceans Apart.
  • You can obtain from the Mysterious Rogue vendor in The Oubliette settlement, which is due southeast of Sainte-Anne.
  • The target's location is further east of the settlement, and it's in open waters.
  • You're told that the ship only spawns at night. However, we've noticed that it will remain in place even during the day.
A map showing the location of the Maangodin.

The Maangodin Ghost Ship encounter

Once you have the Ocean's Apart quest, head to the marked location to spot the Ghost Ship cloaked behind the fog. As you approach, it will open fire with its spectral rockets. Now, if you try to hit various parts of the ship, you might notice that it's immune. That's because you have to hit its weak points first (i.e. the objects that have a red glow).

You can use direct damage weapons, such as ballistae, culverins, or the Scurlock's Chasers long gun. Alternatively, you can try to land AoE damage using bombards. In any case, if you're able to hit its weak spots a few times, you'll hear a loud screech. That means the Ghost Ship's entire hull is vulnerable, so try to do as much DPS as you can. After a few seconds, its hull will become immune again, so you have to target specific weak spots once more.

Note that you're fighting this vessel in open waters. That means you have to contend with stormy waters and rogue waves, too.

You have to blast the weak points of your opponent before you can deal damage to the rest of its hull.

Possible Ghost Ship bug

In our experience, the Skull and Bones Ghost Ship actually bugged out during the encounter. Here's what happened:

  • We were kiting the Maangodin and shooting it from afar.
  • For some reason--probably because we moved close to the edge of the encounter area--it dropped aggro and went back to its original spot.
  • When that occurred, it simply spun around in place without attacking.
  • Due to its high defenses, our weapons couldn't do a lot of damage. Still, since it was a sitting duck--or a spinning duck, if you will--we continued to pepper it with shots, going so far as to run out of bombard ammo.
  • We still received rewards when we destroyed it in spite of this bug.
The Ghost Ship just continued to spin around, so we kept shooting it at point-blank range.

Ghost Ship and Ethereal Ashes rewards

Speaking of rewards, the Maangodin Ghost Ship drops the Tarnished Ring, which lets you complete the Oceans Apart quest via the NPC in The Oubliette. It also drops Ethereal Ashes, a special currency used to purchase goodies from the same vendor. Here's what you can get:

  • Mysterious Chest - A container with random equipment and resources; costs 50 Ethereal Ashes.
  • Hessel's outfit set - Clothing and accessories for your character; costs 10 to 20 Ethereal Ashes.
  • Blue Specter - A blueprint that lets you craft a unique sea fire weapon; costs 50 Ethereal Ashes.
Keep taking out the Ghost Ship whenever it respawns to get more Ethereal Ashes.

Just in case you want to amass additional Ethereal Ashes, you can still fight the Ghost Ship whenever it respawns or as part of a contract once you reach Kingpin rank. In any case, this is how you defeat the Maangodin Ghost Ship in Skull and Bones. This isn't the only unique elite that you can find in the game. There's also the Kuharibu Sea Monster in the Western Basin.
