Gotham Knights' cinematic trailer shows the main quartet taking down bad guys in style--nice motorcycle throw, Batgirl--while Alfred's voice narrates. It's the latest trailer to join the steady trickle of promos ahead of Gotham Knights' October 21 release.
Batgirl, Robin, Red Hood, and Nightwing--inheritors of Batman's legacy--each get their moment to shine in the cinematic trailer. And at the end, we see a glimpse of the villains (the mysterious Court of Owls) looming behind Batman's gravestone. Alfred also reassures the superheroes of their worthiness in taking on the heavy mantle Batman's left behind--which is the driving crux of the story. What's Gotham City like when there isn't a Batman?
In GameSpot's Gotham Knights' hands-on preview, creative director of Gotham Knights Patrick Redding explained the motivation behind taking Batman out. The team had conversations around "disrupting the Gotham City dynamic" and wanting to "give players a chance to have the level of interaction with the city that they hadn't had previously."
"And so we started thinking about that. Like, 'I want to know what happens when that hero has to become more than just a crime fighting vigilante, [and] become a symbol. What does that look like? The problem was, the more we talked about it, the more we realized that the major obstacle to delivering that fantasy was Batman," Redding said. "He kind of looms over everything. And if he's around, you have this sense of, 'Should I really get invested in this character's growth because Daddy's going to come home and take care of business, right?'"
Previous teasers include a 16-minute Gotham Knights gameplay trailer, an official gameplay launch trailer, and an in-depth look at some of Gotham Knights' villains.
Gotham Knights will launch on PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC.
