Sony has announced its PlayStation Plus Season of Play event will start on December 5, running all the way through the holidays until January 5. The event will include bonuses and discounts on PlayStation products, tournaments, a free online multiplayer weekend, and Crunchyroll titles coming to Sony's streaming service.

Despite being a part of PlayStation Plus, not all the Season of Play events require you to have a membership. Non-members and members alike will be able to redeem free avatars for PS4 and PS5 commemorating some of PlayStation Plus's most popular titles. All players can also get a 15% discount on PlayStation merch over the holidays using the code SEASONOFPLAY15.

Sony is also running a competition to win a PS5 console and a 12-month subscription to PlayStation Plus Premium/Deluxe, the most expensive PS+ subscription tier. Unlike the rest of the Season of Play activities, the competition won't pop up on the PS+ homepage until December 19. To enter, Sony says players will have to answer five questions about the PS+ gaming catalog, though it's unclear if this will be a trivia-style competition or something more like a survey.

Players without an active PS+ subscription will also be able to take advantage of free online multiplayer on the weekend of December 9-10. While online multiplayer is usually locked behind a PS+ subscription, all PlayStation owners will be able to take their games online for this one weekend.

When it comes to activities only available to PS+ members, the big one is a string of PlayStation Tournaments that will be taking place between December 12 and December 17, with tournament titles including EA Sports FC 24, NBA 2K24, Madden NFL 24, and MLB the Show 23. Tournament entrants will have a chance to win a Premium/Deluxe membership and be automatically entered into a draw to win a digital edition PS5.

PS+ subscribers who are also members of PlayStation Stars, the console's loyalty program, will also be able to earn bonus points just by downloading and playing the free PS Plus games for December--Lego 2K Drive, PowerWash Simulator, or Sable.

Finally, the Season of Play is offering some bonuses to PS+ members who use Sony Pictures Core, Sony's platform for digital movie rentals and sales. All PS+ members will be able to access discounts on certain titles through the event, with new discounts dropping each Friday. Deluxe/Premium members, who are able to stream a selection of these titles on demand as part of their memberships, will also get access to a selection of titles from Crunchyroll, including episodes from Eighty Six, Iruma-kun, To Your Eternity, and more.

The event is now live as of December 5 at 2 AM PST, when details on all these activities will go live on the PlayStation Plus website.
