Nintendo Switch Game Vouchers are a handy way to get a neat little discount on select digital Switch games, giving Nintendo Switch Online members the option to purchase two games for just $100. Now that the Switch 2 is out, Nintendo has specified that these vouchers can't be redeemed for Switch 2 exclusives--though they can still be used on the new console for original Switch games.
In the Switch 2 eShop, the game-vouchers section includes a warning note saying, "Vouchers cannot be redeemed for Nintendo Switch 2 games." The web version of this page also specifies that vouchers are for the original Switch system (including Lite and OLED model) and "cannot be redeemed for games exclusive to Nintendo Switch 2."
The vouchers still can be used on the Switch 2, but they can only be used to purchase Switch 1 titles. In the case of games that have a paid Switch 2 enhanced edition, vouchers will presumably only purchase the Switch 1 edition of the game, which can then be upgraded with an additional fee. With most of the Switch 2 enhanced upgrades going for $10, you could still save yourself some money using game vouchers to purchase upgraded titles like Tears of the Kingdom and Breath of the Wild.
The list of voucher-eligible games also includes a number of games getting free upgrades on the Switch 2, including Pokemon Scarlet and Violet, The Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom, and Super Mario Bros. Wonder, among others.
The caveat on the game-voucher page suggests Nintendo isn't planning on extending the voucher program to the Switch 2, even as it continues to add more Switch 1 titles to the list. We'll have to wait and see if the Switch 2 gets its own game vouchers sometime later in the console's lifespan.
