A new trailer for Free Stars: Children of Infinity has arrived, providing a closer look at the direct sequel to the sci-fi cult classic The Ur-Quan Masters. Pistol Shrimp Games, led by Paul Reiche III and Fred Ford, is creating the retro-inspired arcade-style space combat game.
Reiche and Ford are the co-founders of Toys for Bob, which created Star Control and Star Control II. Stardock now owns the rights to the Star Control series, and as such, the new Free Stars games are not able to use the Star Control name. As such, Children of Infinity is basically a spiritual successor to Star Control.
"Set three years after the defeat of the Ur-Quan hierarchy and its Sa-Matra battle platform, a new discovery draws the captain into an old mystery. Hope and conflict continue to be at odds in the universe, and a new threat surfaces that may change everything," reads a line from the game's description.
In Children of Infinity, you play as a captain of the Alliance of Free Stars. You embark on an intergalactic journey to numerous planets where you can befriend alien species, collect resources, and unlock additional story elements .The game also allows players to customize and upgrade their sharships. Additionally, Children of Infinity has online co-op and competitive PvP.
A Kickstarter campaign for Children of Infinity goes live on April 16. While you wait, Free Stars: The Ur-Quan Masters is out now on Steam for free, having just recently released in February.
