BURGESS, Eric
Passed away at home with family, aged 80 years.
Much loved by his family, never forgotten.
Formidable team with Jan for 57 years.
Best Dad of Paul and Sophie, Nathan and Shari and much-loved Grandad of Milo, Hugo and Max and Jayden and Matilda and Spencer and Jamie.
‘Oh, Captain, my Captain!’
Eric, you were a very special husband. An only child with four cousins, you formed strong bonds with Jan’s family as brother and uncle. You became a big brother and uncle to your extensive birth families in QLD, NSW and Canada. You were a good friend to all, with fascinating life stories to share, a warm hugger and lover of grand dogs.
A skillful mentor, unforgettable teacher, talented sportsman and sports administrator, coach of hockey, swimming and athletics, a musician, chorister and poet, with strong views and strong emotions. Your impact on generations of young people forms part of your legacy.
In recent years, in your recliner, you would conduct to your favourite classical music and umpire the hockey on television, when you were no longer able to participate.
You did not worry about money, or what people thought of you. You did not dwell on the past, but lived for every day, content in what you achieved.
The family would like to thank all of Eric’s doctors and care teams who treated him with love, dignity and respect over the past years, and a special thanks to sister Maree, for all your love and support over the past week. It means more than you can know.
A private cremation will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers for Eric, please donate in his memory to Grange Royals Hockey Club via Nathan.
