CAIN, Dr Francis Michael
In loving memory of Dr Francis Michael Cain (DOB: 14.05.1931), husband to Elaine, father to Penny and Felicity. Grandfather to Sam, Ollie, Killian, Spencer, Conan, Carter and Evie.
Born in Warracknabeal in Victoria and as a teenager he moved to Adelaide with his parents Frank Snr and Beatrice. He studied a Bachelor of Arts (Hons) at Adelaide University and went on to obtain a Master’s Degree and PhD in history.
He first worked at Point Cook Air Force Academy as a lecturer in Melbourne in 1966 and was briefly at UNSW in Sydney before transferring to ADFA in Canberra in 1983. Frank retired in 2009 and remained in Canberra until 2020 when he and Elaine returned to Adelaide.
He taught both undergraduate and post graduate students and wrote books and articles on a broad range of topics within 20th Century Australian and modern international history. He had a passion for vintage and veteran English cars and loved to travel and meet people from all walks of life. He had a great interest in politics and was a lifelong member of the Australian Labor Party.
Frank was a man who gave so much more than he ever received or expected. He will be sorely missed by all and died peacefully at Royal Adelaide Hospital on 10.12.2022.
