AUMANN, David Kenneth

Passed away peacefully, surrounded by family.

Loving husband of Dianne. Cherished father of Kylee and Carla, father-in-law to Will and Chris. Adored Grandad of Chloe, Luke, Finley and Georgia. Beloved big brother of Lynda, Alan and Carolyn.

David grew up on an orchard and attended school in Templestowe before graduating from La Trobe University as a high school teacher. He moved to Won Wron as a first-year teacher, where he taught maths and chemistry at Yarram Secondary College for nearly 30 years, and served in the CFA as a volunteer firefighter. In 2002, David and Dianne moved to Heathmont, where David taught at Box Hill Senior Secondary College until his retirement.

David was a keen fisherman, golfer, cyclist, baseballer, concertina restorer, and horticulturalist where he worked to identify and preserve hundreds of heritage fruit tree varieties; but above all else, music was David’s life. A man of many talents, David was also a self-taught and talented luthier and the guitars, mandolins and ukuleles he crafted are treasured by musicians across Australia. He was also a passionate musician, with eclectic taste spanning Gilbert & Sullivan, Australian bush music, Irish folk, jazz, a cappella, and bluegrass. He was a key member of numerous bands including Ragwort, Thistle and Other Noxious Weeds, Harmaniacs, Looking for Treble, Fat Chance, Faux Grass, the Mississippi Movers and NQR. He was also a keen performer in Gilbert & Sullivan stage shows and the Yarram Eisteddfod, as well as an organiser/participant to numerous folk clubs and festivals.

Vale David — a life well played.
