BABICH, Branislav
BABICH, Branislav
Born in Markovićevo, Vršac, Serbia,
16 November 1941.
Passed away peacefully in Adelaide
on 4 June 2025,
in his eighty-fourth year.
Son of Ilija and Marija
(both deceased),
and the youngest of five children.
Lovingly remembered by his three children
Velimir, Tihomir, and Marija
as a man of immense intelligence,
with an extraordinary memory
and deep knowledge spanning
Economics, Finance, Accounting,
Politics, History, Geography, and World Affairs.
A true polyglot, he taught himself
to understand and speak many languages.
Branislav completed a distinguished career
of more than three and a half decades as
a Banker where he helped
the rich get richer, but more importantly,
helped many in his community get a start,
pursue a dream, and succeed
in a time vastly different from today.
Later in life, he began a second career as the
Minister for Tourism,
through his role as a taxi driver.
Alongside this, he proudly served
as Minister for Roads,
offering well-known critiques
of Adelaide’s infrastructure
and firmly believing that nearly
every road and turn-off “needed to be a
little bit wider.”
Branislav also held roles as
Coach of the Australian National Football Team
and Historian of FK Beograd Woodville Soccer Club.
In none of these illustrious positions
of his latter career was he ever officially
employed by the South Australian Government,
the Football Federation of Australia,
or FK Beograd Woodville.
But that never stopped him.
His proudest role though,
was that of a Grandfather.
May he rest in peace
