Reverend Father Hilary Thomas Flynn, born 4th March 1940, Emerald, Qld. Priest of the Diocese of Cairns. Studied at Pius XII Seminary Banyo. Ordained to Priesthood 29th June 1964 at St Patrick’s Cathedral, Toowoomba. Fr Flynn entered into Eternal Life, at the Cairns Hospital, on Saturday evening 3rd August 2024, aged 84 years. Fr Flynn served in the following parishes during his Priestly ministry. St Joseph’s Atherton 1965, St Monica’s Cathedral Cairns 1966, St Clare’s Tully 1967, Sacred Heart Thursday Island 1969, St Joseph’s Parramatta Park 1974, St Rita’s Babinda 1981, St Anthony’s Dimbulah 1984, St Joseph’s Weipa 1987, Relief Priest (Gordonvale, Herberton & St Monica’s) 1993, Franciscan University Ohio USA 1995, on loan to the Townsville Diocese 1996, Relief Priest Cairns 1997, Sacred Heart Thursday Island 1997, Our Lady Help of Christians Earlville 2003, St Teresa of the Child Jesus Ravenshoe and Gulf Savannah 2006, St Clare’s Tully 2014, St John’s Silkwood 2021, Retired to
Mercy Place Cairns 2024.
Most dearly loved son of Tom & Noreen (both dec’d), loved brother & brother in law of Fr John Flynn (dec’d), Vincent, Julian & Helen, Felicity, Philomene & Robert, loved uncle of their families.
Fr Hilary’s body will be received at St Monica’s Cathedral, 183 Abbott Street, Cairns City, at a Vigil of Prayers and Memories and a Liturgical Reception of his body on SUNDAY EVENING 11th August,
commencing at 7.00pm.
Diocesan Administrator Reverend Fr Kerry Crowley, Bishop Elect Fr Joseph Caddy, Clergy and Religious of the Diocese of Cairns, all family, relatives, parishioners and many friends of FATHER HILARY FLYNN are respectfully invited to attend a Solemn Funeral Mass which will be celebrated on MONDAY MORNING 12th August 2024, commencing at 10.00am at St Monica’s Cathedral 183 Abbott Street, Cairns City. Following the Mass the interment will take place in the Priest’s Section of the Cairns Martyn Street Monumental Cemetery.
